Kitchen Refurbishment
Artisan Bespoke Furniture
for a Kitchen Refurb
After much deliberation, my client decided to refurbish their existing kitchen. I convinced him that the units were such good quality it would be travesty to rip them out. Plus, the money we were saving could be put towards lighting and a statement table and chairs. As we were also keeping the existing marble worktops, this would dictate the colour scheme.
I chose a beautiful shade of green from the Benjamin Moore Scuff X range, which is incredibly hardwearing for interior woodwork. We repainted the whole kitchen, including the Island and a free-standing Welsh dresser and replaced old handles with contemporary, knurled, black ones. I finally got to order some incredible hand-blown lights from a company I’d been wanting to use for ages – Rothschild & Bickers – and they didn’t disappoint.
Through Instagram I found an Artisan River Table maker who, as luck would have it, lived in Oxford. I contacted him and we visited him in his workshop, resulting in a commission for a 2.5 metre long dining table and coffee table for the adjoining snug. The tables would be made in walnut and the glass (or river) aspect in the middle would be green glass. For some reason, sourcing this green glass in the lengths needed turned out to be a complete nightmare. However, after several months it was worth the wait. The table was stunning, and teamed with some walnut backed chairs, my client got the wow factor he was after.
