Moroccan Summer House
Quirky Moroccan Summer House
Occasionally I get to do a seriously quirky project, and this was one of them. A client asked me if I would transform their damp, dilapidated summer house, which sat in their beautifully landscaped garden overlooking a fountain.
It needed a complete overhaul. I wanted to create something that reflected his personality and love of travel and opulent colours, so we decided on a Moroccan theme inspired by his many visits to Marrakesh.
I chose a vibrant paint colour courtesy of The Little Greene Paint Company for the exterior and a jewel colour for the interior. After finding a Moroccan stencil online, I contacted a local CNC company who scanned the stencil and upscaled it, then cut it into large sheets of MDF. These sheets were then painstakingly hand-painted in antique gold paint, alongside Moorish style bespoke joinery and opulent upholstery.
The seating in the summer house needed to convert into a double bed for summer evenings and I wanted the ceiling to be draped, adding drama and authenticity. This required a lot of fabric and a skilled upholsterer!
The end result looked stunning, especially when it was finished off with Moroccan lighting and accessories. The perfect tranquil oasis to sit in and enjoy the garden, with a glass of wine or Moroccan apple tea – whatever your tipple.
