Formal Reception Room
Chandeliers & Jewel Tones
My client wanted a formal reception room for entertaining guests. They had a large empty room with magnolia walls and not much else – it did, however, have a beautiful fireplace and large patio doors, which led out onto the stunning garden.
I was asked to work around an existing, large piece of artwork which had to stay in the room. I chose an opulent jewel colour scheme with Moroccan-style wallpaper from Arte to represent my client’s travels.
As the room was so big, with two large ceiling roses in place, I knew it could take some huge statement chandelier lights. I sourced some incredible Chandeliers from Luxxu in Portugal, which turned up in wooden crates after months of waiting. Putting them up was like a scene from Only Fools and Horses – nerve-wracking wasn’t the word! We had to erect a large scaffolding tower due to the weight of them. Luckily, when I went back the next morning after a sleepless night, both the lights and the ceiling were still intact… and breathe!
I commissioned a bespoke rug from The Rug Company in wool and silk, colour-matched to the cushion fabric. It was worth the wait – it was stunning. We teamed the rug with some bespoke furniture from Porta Romana and Julian Chichester. Finally, I added in a collection of house plants in beautiful planters to link the interior with the garden.
